Wimbledon Brings a Variety of Footwear to the Court

Tennis Shoes

In order to play like a champion it’s important to dress like one. Footwear is especially significant in tennis because of the importance of speed and agility. Not only did Wimbledon feature some of the years’ best tennis but also showcased a sea of white and a plethora of different brands in footwear. When it comes down to it, the biggest question for tennis enthusiasts is what equipment is going to make me the best athlete. Well, let’s start at the top…or should we say the foot.Adidas Mens Tennis Shoe

Novak Djokovic was seen sporting the Adidas Barricade 7. His special edition shoe features his signature logos including a Reiki symbol representing energy and protection. This shoe is built to keep break-in to a minimum and provide superior traction on hard courts. Adidas also offers many recreational tennis shoes starting at $50.

Nike Tennis Shoes Roger

Wimbledon saw Federer sporting the Nike Zoom Vapor 9.5 Tour. These shoes are even lighter and faster than ever before and feature Nike’s Adaptive Fit construction. Legendary Nike designer, Tinker Hatfield, and Roger himself, focused on designing a shoe with the comfort of a running shoe, immersed with elegant touches and ultimate playability. If your style of play is more in line with Rafael Nadal you have to check out the Nike Lunar Ballistic 1.5 shoe, which features more breathability and often comes with a 6-month durability guarantee.Screen Shot 2015-08-09 at 8.20.37 AM

Other popular shoes worn by some of the world’s greats include Asics Gel Resolution 6 (Gael Monfils), Yonex Power Cushion Pro (Stan Wawrinka) or Milos Raonic wearing the New Balance 996v2.

There is no “wrong” or “right” choice when choosing footwear for tennis, it’s all about preference and compatibility. Whether you channel your favorite athlete or choose based on style, make sure you find the right style for you…your game depends on it.

Four Fixes For Your Tennis Wardrobe

Eleven by Venus Williams

Problem: Skirt undershorts always dig into my legs and emphasize unsightly cellulite that make me feel self-conscious.

Sofibella SkirtSolution: Cellulite is inevitable in 90% of women. However, some spandex is cut to small for the skirt size. You have two options: find a longer skirt that provides more coverage or shop skirts that provide more “give” in the spandex. A skirt that is forgiving and available in 3 different lengths (Including Plus Sizes): Sofibella Women’s Perseverance Skirt.

SpanxAnother trending option is the skirted legging-it provides excellent coverage and has a built in pocket for your tennis ball: Lija Skapri. Or try one designed by the nation’s leader in looking fabulous: Spanx. Tip- For skirts you already own: you can simply roll/tuck the spandex up one or two times. This will provide you with some slack so that you don’t get the “Skapri Lijaorange peel” effect.

Problem: My local country club only has clay courts- I’m not much of a slider and I really dislike having to constantly kick the clay out of the grooves in the bottom of my shoe.

Solution: Asics makes clay court shoes that feel exactly like their hard court ones. From experience, whenever we would travel to the East Coast and play in the clay court tournaments we would slip these on and transition effortlessly. Guaranteed slide-proof. Asics Gel Resolution 6 Clay White/Silver

Asics Clay Court Resolution

Problem: My country club only allows me to wear white. I’m tired of the preppy collared look. I want to stand out!Inphorm

Solution: You have to choose unique fabrics and layers to play with. Depending on your body type, you can utilize draping or ruching. Or, if your club permits add a pop of color or a dramatic line. A fantastic line to check out: InphormInphorm

Problem: I am more mature in age, but I still want to wear styles that are fashion forward and fit my body. I want apparel that doesn’t age me, but also is age appropriate.Chrissie By Tail

SolChrissie by Tailution: We have to perfect line for you and it happens to be created by someone you can trust: Chrissie By Tail (aka: Chris Evert). This line actually looks more stunning on a more mature demographic. It provides stylish designs, feminine cuts and is incredibly flattering. Nike bringing back short-shorts at Australian Open

Nike Tennis Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal

2015 marks ten years since Rafael Nadal took the world by storm and won his first ever Grand Slam. Nadal has continued to dominate the tennis world along with Federer. However, in this ten-year span his fashion has changed tremendously.

At the 2015 Australian Open, Nadal will debut a 7-inch short. A stark contrast to the three quarter Capri pants he wore to win his first Roland Garros title. Nike has gone for a retro look with a modern twist in its Nadal spring collection. The white short shorts will be paired with a neon pink crew neck that brings back a hint of the 80’s disco scene colors.

Nike has designed an ensemble for Roger Federer that celebrates the colors of Australian sport. He will be donning a neon yellow crew with a green fade on both the front and back of the shirt. Federer will also be sporting the daring 7-inch shorts in a gray tone with green stripes down the side.

The Australian Open is an extremely vibrant and colorful Grand Slam. Nike have put together a Spring Collection that pays tribute to all its qualities and the Nike athletes will fit in wonderfully.

You Are The New Sexy

IMG_6742 (1) copy

In today’s society, men  and women alike have been brought up looking at ads, social media, television, and magazines that give us the impression we have to act, dress, look, and be a certain way. As a young woman, I have felt the need to look a specific way and criticized myself for not being able to achieve that perfection.

I have always been a tall, strong girl and in sports that body type was a blessing. But… as a girl, I never felt as dainty and small as I thought I should be.IMG_6702

But why do we care? Why is that we find it so hard to be nice to ourselves and just appreciate who we are?

I believe it’s stemmed from a society that can’t help but pick favorites. For years, being skinny was sexy, now strong is the new sexy. Tomorrow purple hair will be the new sexy! It is really just so exhausting!

There is no way that sexy is defined by one type, one size, one eye color,  how much muscle you have, or what your sexual preference is. It’s time to stop the stigmas, and move on to a new generation that loves all and accepts all.

I have days where I feel fantastic, and days when I feel terrible. But, maybe if I start to accept myself, love myself, and be kind to myself, the terrible days will become less and less. And eventually, dissipate completely. Try to be kinder to yourself, because you are sexy, you are beautiful, and life is too short to not believe it.

I’m a beautiful girl with a big butt and strong legs. Yeah, I may have a few dimples here and there, but if I don’t love every single one, then who else can?

Stay Fabulous!

Tennis Runway Episode 2: Channel Your Inner Gladiator

The Ellison Sisters Tennis Runway February Catalog Channel Your Inner Gladiator

The crossover between fashion and sports has been building for the past few years. We have even seen a couture sneaker revolution, which is a growing trend because of the high value of sports in society. Since the feminist movements of the 60’s, women have been exposing their internal and external power for the entire world to see.

Newer tennis brands are taking the market by storm because of their fashion forward, sleek designs. Making them alluring, interesting, and wearable all at the same time. Their cuts and lines make women feel fierce and fabulous on and off the court. Venus Williams, designer of Eleven, hand sketches her patterns and designs. Her line embodies her competitive spirit enmeshed with her feminine mystique.

This episode is the visual representation of “Vogue”…the modus operandi of a true Queen of the Court.
